First picture book out, sketchbook feature, and community
No. 02 | September Newsletter
Hi friends!
Thank you so much for your kind response and feedback on my first newsletter. I absolutely love this format so far and I’m really happy to see many artists launching their own newsletters – more delightful goodness for me to read!
Can you believe it’s already September? Fall is just around the corner here in the northern hemisphere, my favourite time of year. I can’t wait for sweater weather and for the leaves to change colours.
What I’ve been up to
My first illustrated picture book is out this month
My first illustrated picture book Bonnie’s New Old Outfit, written by Madison Moore, is out this month!
While the intended release date was September 1st, due to shipping delays, books won’t be shipped out til September 22, but you can still order pre-order a copy. They’ll be in stores by then as well.
Bonnie wants the perfect first-day-of-school outfit, but everything in her wardrobe is too big or too small, or worn out. So with the help of her family and a lot of creativity, Bonnie learns to use maker techniques like embroidery, knitting, and natural dyes to turn her old clothes into something new, original, and perfect for her catwalk to the bus stop.
Odd Orange blog feature
I’ve been featured in a blog post by Odd Orange stationery, giving you a peek into my sketchbooks and my art process. I’ve followed Morgan’s sketchbook binding journey over the past years, and it has been incredible to see her stationery brand evolve. It was so lovely to chat with her!
A busy summer month
This past month has been really eventful in terms of my personal life. Outside of book sketch deadlines, I didn’t do a whole lot of art, as expected.
I spent time in northeastern Ontario and celebrated the life of my Gramie.
I saw my first live music show since the pandemic began, which was incredible.
I got the chance to meet up with online art friends in real life.
We sent off my not-so-little little brother to art college. Time flies!
Meeting picture book pals IRL
This year, I've had the amazing opportunity to connect with a group of picture book illustrators, and it has truly been a highlight of my year. Recently, a few of us had the chance to meet up in person for a wholesome picnic in Toronto.
An illustration career can be a lonesome pursuit at times, but finding a supportive community of like-minded individuals makes a world of difference. This is one of the most amazing things about social media and the internet.

The illos for Bonnies New Old Clothes are gorgeous! Are they digital? Did you create a colour swatch to refer to in order to stay consistent? 😍
